Day 5
Today we visited Ostia Antica! One of our favorite days of the tour. Ostia Antica was a former Roman port city and many mosaics remain well-intact. It's an amazing place to learn about life in an ancient Roman city! The ruins here really give a robust picture of the entire ancient city; from the large villas, complete with indoor plumbing, to the apartment buildings, bath houses, amphitheaters, and burials outside of the city walls.
After our tour of the ruins we enjoyed a seaside lunch with the group and a quick visit to the Tyrrhanian seaside. We got to wade in the sea and slow down for a moment on this beautiful day. On the way back, via the Appian Way, we stopped for a tour of the Saint Sebastiano catacombs, which was not as scary or claustrophobic as Carrie thought they would be!
