Day 7

As our official tour wrapped up we said goodbye to our group and headed off for a few days in the south of Italy visiting Pompeii, Naples and Vietri sul Mare. Here are a few pictures from our excursion...

One of the best parts about this trip was that we got to see all of the famous historic sites that we had been looking forward to like the Forum, Colosseum, Pantheon, and Catacombs ... and we also got to explore new things we found along the way! On our own we were able to explore the Baths of Caracalla, Baths of Diocletian, and Basilica of San Clemente as well as many museums all around the city. We were helped by our very knowledgeable guides who provided us with wonderful and informative tours of the must-see sites, but they helped us by teaching us the tools to navigate on our own. We were challenged to learn the language (Eric really excelled at this), navigate around the city (this was Evan's specialty) and plan our own adventures (this was Carrie's job). Though our trip was a whirlwind two weeks altogether (we stayed a day before and a few days after the Best of Rome in 7 Days Tour) we were able to do so many things, visit so many sites, museums, try great food, visit with locals, and sample lots and lots of gelato!
